Welcome to The Dallas Cowboys Fan Network - join us it's free!

That's me in the picture with Tony Romo. We have participated in a few functions together since 2006 - he is a great guy and a good friend to The Dallas Cowboys Fan Network. You can get more detailed information on The Dallas Cowboys Fan Network and hear the story about how I got to know Tony Romo here

Overall Game Assessment

Ok - with the Romo debate raging on, let's talk about the game as a whole and an assessment of where we think this team is. First - the positives (in no particular order):

It's easy to try to pin this loss on Romo - but is it right?

Romo made two critical mistakes at horrible times in the game but how in the world can we pin the loss on him when it was he that pretty much put us in the position to win in the first place?  It wasn't as if the running attack was putting all the points on the board. It wasn't as if the defense or special teams scored 24 points (or any points) or even gave the offense good field position to work with.

A downer in New York...

Romo made one big mistake in the fourth quarter - when he ran the ball on third and goal, he did not cover it up, and he turned it over. He also threw an intercetpion, although it was not entirely clear whether that was on him or Bryant. It as also not entirely clear why Bryant was even on the field at the time. But either way, it was double coverage, and I am not sure what Romo saw.

The Cowboys best options to have an elite passing attack...

If the Cowboys are smart, they will design their offense this year to play to their strengths. Their strengths are:

1)  having a set of WRs that have running back bodies, strength and running ability

2)  having a QB who gets through his reads as fast as any QB in the league (actually too quickly at times)

3)  having a QB with one of the quickest releases in football

Look for the running game to be MUCH improved this season...

Even though we have a rebuilt offensive line, look for the Cowboys running game to be much improved this season. The main reason - the running backs. I cannot stress to you how many yards Marion Barber left on the field last year. Before the season last year I had stated that Marber was a bad player as a starting running back. I took a lot of criticism for this but the bottom line is he is now gone from this team. Barber had some great strengths - he was a FANTASTIC blitz pickup blocker and a terrific receiver and power runner.
